Here we are : end of zero years ! It's all about TIME :
...after a quater of century of epistolario oversea relationship based on mail art and music trade, two friends met and decided to make a tour together.
2 friends, 2 artists, 2 peculiar musicians with a common curiosity, a common esthetique, a common energy to life and live...
The « united-stated » ZAN HOFFMAN and the « old-europed » CHAZAM are going to share the stages across Europe in may/june 2010 for a three sided show :
* Chazam solo
* Zan solo
AND
* them playing along.
Zan is a quarantined North American artist living and working in Louisville, Kentucky. Since the beginning of the eighties he built curious and personal work full of abundance and strangeness. He already produced IN EXCESS OF 1000 (tapes, records).
A « brut music » in the meaning of « art brut » as result of an inside necessity. A music for itself, a music as a frame for texts.
Zan is a poet. Like the best ones of the « beat generation », or some inspired slammers and the « sound poets » of the seventies. He chants his text materials with a profound voice, much timbered and unstoppable.
Zan is a real american dandy, a particular guy, especially human, warm, and able to create surprise and great connection with his audience.

Zan is creator of every instant, he's also an obsessed collector of sounds, cassettes, archives and musics.
Zan plays alone, but under different conceptual principles and names.
One of those concepts is particulary exciting : during the day of the concert he would record street sounds, and will use later those sound ambiences as backing for an improvisation.
Zan not only trades his own records with the other musicians he meets, he also share the stage with improbable meetings, savage jams with a great mastery...

Hard to say simply who is CHAZAM... he made tons of realisations and collaborations : creator of the bands "Tschack !", "los Electricos", "Xtra Systols", special collaborator of electronic genius pioneer JEAN JACQUES PERREY (album "Eclektronics" + many concerts), special sound assistant and pieces conceptor of worldwide recognised artist CHRISTIAN BOLTANSKI, music composer for theater shows by companies "Ouvre le chien", "Tiberghien", "Victor B" ; dance shows for company "Paul les oiseaux" and movies of directress LUCIA SANCHEZ... Chazam, born 12 Vendémiaire 177, is a multidirectional composer, an approximative instrumentist. He likes : democracy (as an idea), idiocracy (as a movie), mandolin, his kids, audio tapes, MP3's, and vinyls. Hates : french fitfth agonising republic, to dance (but he loves to make other people dance). .....try to follow him, be prepared to run !
Chazam and Zan are friends since 1984. At the time, they both began to trade mail-art pieces and lately music. A loyal and long-term epistolario friendship that was finally materialised in 2009 when they met in Galicia, Spain, during a tour of the american dude.
A common term on both sides of Atlantic see for two peculiar artists whose common passions are so many, you cannot count them :

In forthcoming may, year 2010, between day 20 and day 28, the « nearly twins » are going to tour together in some european lucky clubs and venues, be one of them.
